8:31 p.m. - 2008-01-21 *the art ... is putting it together* The wreck room progresses. Between Friday night when I decided to stay home (another story, will tell you later) & Sunday night as I put the room back together, three quarters of the wreck room has been painted. No small feat as there were faux finishes, three irksome windows and assistants involved. But the golden hued paint, the pale gray-green-blue of "Bay Sands" and denim-esque wash in the nook look really great. (Man, I wish I knew how to post pictures on this....) *Listen to me, Mama was smart...children and art* Screaming Harlot observed the painting Friday night and wanted to help. She was quite insistent on helping. So, on Saturday, when it was just Screaming Harlot & I, we went to "the paint store"--aka large hardware/lumber/etcetera store in our backyard. I bought her a roller & tray of her own, as well as other supplies. We came home, had lunch, and got to work. (no, I did not get pictures.) She painted and did a remarkably neat job. No paint on her clothes, no paint on the floor. She did get some paint on the bottom wall, but that was easily cleaned off. When she painted her hand with the roller, I declared her done and sent her to wash her hands. Since she'd been painting for about an hour & a half, she was ready to do the next thing. No, I did not force her to paint that long. Screaming Harlot labored willingly and quietly: on the same spot of the wall, but willingly. FirstBorn got in on the act, too. At one point, all four of us (me, NMH, SH & FB) were downstairs painting. No major spills, no temper tantrums--impressive, no? *Color and light.* There is still work to be done, but the room is so much brighter now. Warm color where the wall is cold; cool color where the wall is warmer. I still don't know what the final plan is for where I'm staying Friday night and who, if anyone, will be helping me load up all my stuff on Saturday. But I do know that this room should be complete by the end of January, and I'm rather happy about that. This weekend: I make what is shaping up to be a $1500 IKEA run. But when you're trying to cram a TV room, in-home daycare for 3, computer room and craft storage zone into one 14 x 18 foot room, IKEA is the place to go. At least I'm moving the liquor upstairs. Except for a small bottle of vodka, which will be used to sterilize the thermometer when necessary. ;-) Really. And now, back to planning my shopping list. After all, when you're driving a couple hundred miles to make the initial purchase, you REALLY don't want to forget anything....
