pain, exhaustion, the usual
I did something very stupid--I went back to Haven on Friday. CrushBoy's week was unpleasant, and I couldn't go back when I'd originally scheduled, so.... Nothing like creating and executing a roadtrip plan--that involves children--in 24 hours.
Screaming Harlot, Brother One, and I arrived around 5:00pm. The plan: We arrive, unpack, CrushBoy drops us at the amusement park, we play while he spends a couple more hours at the office, he picks us up, we eat and people go to bed. Unbeknownst to us, other people had other plans. CrushBoy's high school friend J, and wife M arrived unexpected at 4:30pm. So rather than go to the park, we hung out and chatted. And there was a pie delivery, so I got to meet the baker. Serendipidous timing all around, as I'd been wanting to meet these people for a while.
There was dinner and drinking, and J&M came back to drink and socialize. We pulled out the 80's TrivP and the women trounced the men--I said I didn't want to do teams until I found a woman my age who knew something about the NBA. I have now found one--M is my new best friend!
Saturday didn't go according to plan, either. The kids opted to swim instead of hit the amusement park Saturday morning. There was nappage and carwashing Saturday afternoon. Saturday evening we hit the amusement park after a stop at the grocery to get cranberry juice, dog food and one ginger beer (for a queasy stomach). And then I headed home about 3 hours later than I'd intended.
Long day after little sleep meant that in order to make it home, I had to take lots of naps. Because of this, it took me nearly six hours instead of under four. But I got to talk to Batten for a while (she kept me awake and lectured me for being foolish), so it's all good.
And then my midweek ailment returned with a vengence and I missed church anyway. So I could have stayed at CrushBoy's house and gotten a decent night's sleep. Oh, well. You know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men....
